Silver and Orange Study in Reflections and Drama
The second painting I’d like to share with you is called “Silver and Orange”, from 2017.
This is a smaller scale than the painting I shared with you yesterday, but still what I consider a large work, at 9×12 inches (22×30 cm).
It features characteristics my paintings often have in common: highly reflective surfaces, dramatic light against an intensely dark background, and a closer, more intimate feeling.
I have thousands of objects in my studio available for use in my paintings, but there are a few that I use over and over again.
The wood-handled knife in this painting is one of them. There is nothing special about it – it is just an old knife that I bought in an antique store.
But, I find something very beautiful about it – it speaks to me visually in just the right way – and I have included it in dozens of paintings.
This painting required about two weeks of work – including some drying time between the layers. It is part of a set of three very similar pieces I did over a six week period.
