Matched Paintings for Library and Breakfast Room
"Boxed Bottle" and "Boxed Olives"
The first paintings are something unique – a matched set of Trompe-l’œil paintings.
Trompe l’œil (literally “deceives the eye”) is a manner of painting that aims to be so realistic that it gives the illusion of presenting actual objects, not artistic representations of them.
In this matched set of Trompe l’œil paintings, objects are arranged in the interior of a small wooden box (in fact, an antique cheese box), and wrapped with pieces of string and twine, respectively, giving the impression of three dimensional depth on a flat surface.
The illusion of depth is continued into the frame, which presents the paintings in floating style, enclosed in custom frames made by the artist.
These are priced at $3500 for the pair.
"Boxed Bottle" and "Boxed Olives"
The second set is a pair of tea-themed paintings.
“Kyusu Teapot and Teacup” features an antique Kyusu – the traditional Japanese teapot used for brewing green tea, along with a teacup and silver spoon. The entire composition is set against a warm red tapestry background.
Measuring 8 x 10 inches (20 x 25 cm), it is set in a black frame, the outer dimensions of which are 14 x 16 inches (35 x 40 cm).
“Golden Teacup No. 2” features a porcelain teacup with a wedge of lemon and a silver spoon, all resting on embroidered silk against a purple backdrop. The gold tones throughout the painting contrast vividly with the purples – both the backdrop itself and its subtle reflections into the saucer.
Measuring 10×10 inches, it’s done with oil on panel, and is set in a classic wide black frame with a beveled edge, the outer dimensions of which are about 16×16 inches.
These are priced at $1750 each, so also $3500 for the pair.
“Still Life with Miniature Pumpkin” and "Still Life with Walnuts and Pumpkin"
The third set is a pair of paintings that each feature a pumpkin, wine, and walnuts.
“Still Life with Miniature Pumpkin” is an original still life painting, done with oil on linen.
It features a miniature pumpkin, and antique wine goblet, and a scattering of walnuts and blueberries. The entire composition is set against a piece of textured slate tile.
Measuring 10 x 10 inches, it is set in a black frame, the outer dimensions of which are 16 x 16 inches.
“Still Life with Walnuts and Pumpkin” is an original still life painting, done with oil on linen.
It is a “kitchen” still life painting, featuring a glass of red wine, miniature pumpkin, and cracked walnuts. The composition rests against a weathered piece of wood, and a rich green cloth forms the backdrop.
Measuring 7 x 10 inches, it is set in a gold leaf frame, the outer dimensions of which are 13 x 16 inches.
These are priced at $1750 each, so also $3500 for the pair.
