Voladores
Now, for a little surprise.
If you’ve been following my work for a while, you know that I am a still life painter through and through. It is the one kind of painting I am interested in making. I think about this kind of art all the time, and it is the perfect vehicle for what I want to express.
…for the most part.
Every once in a while though, a change is healthy – like having a salad without the usual freshly ground pepper – it’s good just to have a different perspective.
These paintings were inspired by the Voladores.
In this ancient Central American ceremony, people in brightly colored costumes climb to the top of very tall poles. With ropes firmly tied to their ankles and the top of the poles, they leap off and effectively do an aerial ballet, with up to four people spinning around the pole at once.
It is dramatic and beautiful.
And, well… it inspired these gentle little paintings.
These paintings are available as a set. I normally offer pieces individually, but I think these should stay together, so I will offer them as a pair.
Next, we turn to a painting with a mysterious air.
If you would prefer to see all of the paintings in the show at once, you can skip ahead to the gallery page.
