Sometimes it’s best not to think too much.

I’ve found that if I set out deliberately and intentionally to “say something” with a painting, if often comes across as forced – or even it doesn’t come across at all.

If I get out of the way, however, and just let my eyes and hands do their own work, sometimes something special can arise.

I think that happened here.

I wasn’t trying for a particular mood or statement here.  I was simply interested in whether I could make a successful painting using only one object.

And yet, by simply stepping aside and diligently doing my work, this wonderfully evocative and expressive world arose, more or less by itself.

And yes, that is exactly the same teapot we saw in the first painting of the show.

“Mysterium” is done with oil on linen and panel, and measures 11×14 inches.

It is available.

The next painting stars another of my favorite objects – one of the Chinese ginger jars I have in my studio collection.

If you would prefer to see all of the paintings in the show at once, you can skip ahead to the gallery page.
